Product Placement Quickie

Apropos of a couple of things I’ve written recently:

Miramax secured an unspecified annual cash consideration when it struck the corporate agreement with the Denver brewery early last year. And the pact grants Coors the right to nix Miramax’s showing rival beer brands in its movies.

So, in keeping with the spirit of the agreement, Miramax decided to digitally alter [“A View From the Top” - (trailer)] which had already begun shooting when the pact was struck.

From Variety via CNN.

Does this mean the next Miramax film set in Europe will have the people in the local pub drinking Coors?

According to the Variety article that CNN reprinted, it does mean that Miramax pictures set in Europe would be required to feature Coors, if it features any brand of beer at all.

I think what you’ll actually see is beer being presented unbranded, or people not drinking at all. Drinking on screen gets you a worse MPAA rating anyway.
